Two tech M&A partners have joined Covington & Burling in California and New York from Freshfields. Partners John Fisher, based in Palo Alto, and Tomas Rua, based in New York, join Covington's mergers and acquisitions practice group. Fisher will also colead Covington's technology industry group. Fisher and Rua led a Freshfields' team advising Uber on its acquisition of Getir's food, grocery, retail and water delivery business in Türkiye, according to a press release earlier this month. The pair were also part of a team advising Salesforce on its acquisition of Qualified, announced last December. Covington said the firm had partnered with the duo as co-counsel on "highly regulated tech M&A deals" last year. "In addition to being a great cultural fit for us, they will contribute additional strength to our M&A practice as we continue to support clients navigating an increasingly sophisticated tech deal landscape,” said Catherine Dargan, chair of Covington’s corporate practice and co-chair of the firm’s mergers and acquisitions practice, in a firm statement. Dargan said the pair will "expand the work we already do with leading technology companies." A Freshfields spokesperson wished the pair well.
