Am Law 100 firm Sidley Austin last week opened its new 60,000 square foot Miami office located at 830 Brickell Plaza, one of the city’s most prominent commercial towers in the heart of South Florida’s Financial District. The new office, spanning three floors, underscores Sidley’s continued investment in South Florida and its long-term commitment to clients in the region, according to the firm, and moving in was a 3-year-long process. "Miami was our first office in the Southeast in our 160-year life of our law firm. We have 21 offices across four continents, and Miami has been proven to be quite a success story," said Yvette Ostolaza, Sidley's management committee chair. Since entering the Miami market in 2022, Sidley has quickly expanded its team of attorneys and business professionals, growing from an initial 40 attorneys to over 50 attorneys and nearly 90 total professionals. Leaders at the firm, which has continued to grow since opening doors in South Florida, told Law.com they've recognized Miami’s potential as a booming legal market for several years. They added that employees are happy to be in the office as much as possible, rather than stay remote. "When you're founding an office, it's important for people to be there," Ostolaza said. "We're a big training organization, and being a lawyer is something that observation and seeing other people is quite important, and that drove it home for me. What I find is that the generation that experienced COVID and having to do everything remote wants to be in the office." According to the firm, the office is currently serving approximately 700 clients on nearly 1,400 matters spanning many industries. Including private equity, infrastructure, healthcare, sports and entertainment, manufacturing, cyber, corporate, tech, hospitality, insurance, financial institutions, blockchain and cryptocurrency. The new workplace is designed to support this growth, offering a sophisticated, technology-forward environment that enhances collaboration and client service. “Miami represents a significant growth story for Sidley,” said Beatriz Azcuy, co-managing partner of the Miami office and head of the Miami real estate group, in a statement. “This new office highlights our momentum and allows us to deepen our presence, serve our clients more effectively, and contribute meaningfully to the local community.” Sidley occupies floors 41 through 43 of 830 Brickell, a 57-story, LEED-certified tower. Over 150 people attended the firm's grand opening. Several other Am Law 50 firms have also charted moves into the new building, which also serves as the global headquarters for investment giant Citadel and the Miami office for private equity firm Thoma Bravo. Baker McKenzie moved into 18,000 square feet in the space earlier this year, and Kirkland & Ellis has signed a lease in the building. Kirkland's Miami office currently is at Three Brickell City Center, according to the firm's website, and the firm did not immediately respond to an inquiry about the timing of its move Meanwhile, Winston & Strawn changed its initial plans, opting to move to the Southeast Financial Center instead after it pulled its lease following construction delays.
