A woman who said she suffered back and neck injuries when she was hit by a U.S. Postal Service vehicle in Connecticut has filed a lawsuit demanding more than $2 million from the federal government.
Pamela Meistrich's complaint filed Wednesday in the District of Connecticut alleged that a mail carrier hit her while she was walking on a road in Stratford called Harbour View Place on the afternoon of Feb. 28, 2024. In addition to neck and back pain, the collision caused injuries including an intestinal hernia and mental pain and suffering, causing her to lose income, according to the lawsuit.
"In addition to the general damages sustained by the plaintiff, Pamela Meistrich, she has suffered substantial expenses which she has incurred and will continue to incur, including but not limited to, expenses for medical treatment including the service of doctors, hospital and the like, the exact amount to be proven at trial," the complaint said.
Meistrich said she was also unable "to perform her usual and customary chores for a period of time" and missed out on social activities.
She blamed the mail carrier for failing to "exercise due care" before the collision and said the USPS and the federal government should be held liable for negligence.
Counsel for Meistrich and representatives of the USPS and the U.S. Department of Justice did not immediately respond to requests for comment Friday.
Meistrich is represented by Garrett M. Moore Jr. of Moore O'Brien & Foti.
Counsel information for the defendants was not immediately available.
The case is Meistrich v. United States of America et al., case number 3:25-cv-01879, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.
