Kirkland & Ellis advised Waterland Private Equity Investments on the formation of its ninth institutional flagship fund, Waterland Private Equity Fund IX (“WPEF IX”) at €3.5 billion, alongside Waterland Partnership Fund I (“WPF I”) at €500 million. Both funds were oversubscribed, closing at their respective hard caps just four months after initial launch. WPEF IX will focus on control investments in medium-sized companies in fragmented growth markets in Europe. WPF I expects to make minority investments in a very select number of Waterland portfolio companies when these are exited by the flagship funds. Kirkland & Ellis advised Climate Adaptive Infrastructure (CAI), an investment firm that targets control investments in large-scale, low-carbon real assets in the clean energy, water and urban infrastructure sectors, on the successful close of its inaugural fund, Climate Adaptive Infrastructure Fund LP (the Fund), raising more than $825 million in equity. In addition, alongside the Fund, CAI has an affiliated co-investment program of over $200 million, for a total of over $1 billion in equity to deploy. Kirkland & Ellis advised FSN Capital, a leading Northern European private equity firm, on the formation of FSN Capital Confluence, a newly established €588 million continuation fund, which has acquired two portfolio companies from FSN Capital V in order to build on their successful platforms and support a new phase of growth. LGT Capital Partners acted as lead investor. As lead investor in the continuation fund, LGT Capital Partners was supported by new and existing investors, achieving a notable rollover rate from FSN Capital V investors who were offered a status quo rollover option to invest in the fund at current terms, or to use the transaction to generate liquidity. The fund was significantly oversubscribed and attracted leading institutional investors, including endowments, pension funds and asset managers from around the world. Kirkland & Ellis advised FSN Capital, a leading Northern European private equity firm, on the formation of the FSN Capital Compass Fund, which recently held its final closing above its €400 million target. The Compass Fund is a small-cap fund which invests within future-oriented themes that seek to address society’s key challenges over the coming decade, including green transition and knowledge economy. The new strategy is an integrated part of the FSN Capital platform, developed over 25 years and six flagship mid-cap funds.
