Paul, Weiss is advising Canyon Partners, a $24 billion global alternative investment manager, in its sale of a 19.9% stake in its business to Dai-ichi Life Holdings, the largest publicly traded life insurance group in Japan. Under the terms of the agreement, all the net proceeds from the transaction will be retained on Canyon's balance sheet and reinvested in the business, providing funding to seed new products and optimally scale existing products. Dai-ichi will also be committing at least $1.3 billion of LP capital to several of Canyon's commingled funds. Additionally, Dai-ichi has the right to acquire up to 51% of the equity interest in Canyon in 2027 and up to 100% in 2029. The transaction is expected to close in the coming months, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Paul, Weiss is advising General Atlantic as the lead investor in a strategic minority investment in LiveMode, a leading Brazil-based sports and media company that partners with clubs, leagues and sports federations to develop distribution services and produce live and social media content. The investment included the participation of XP Private Equity, the private equity fund of XP Inc. General Atlantic and XP’s investment will support LiveMode in strengthening its impact through long-term agreements with sports leagues, clubs and federations across three critical domains: football leagues, Olympic sports and emerging sports. LiveMode also intends to focus on international expansion, combining its own well-established international relationships with General Atlantic’s global reach and operational resources. LiveMode’s rights-holder partners include FIFA, UEFA, the International Olympic Committee, Federação Paulista de Futebol, Athletico Paranaense and the Brazilian Olympic Committee, among others. LiveMode was recently renewed as the exclusive media rights agent to market the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup in Brazil.
