Kirkland & Ellis moves into its newly built office space at Weir’s Plaza, 4550 Travis St. in Dallas, where the Firm is the anchor tenant. Weir’s Plaza is a Class AA mixed-use retail and office development in the Knox-Henderson neighborhood.
Four Rivers Capital broke ground on the development in July 2019 and Kirkland leased over 100,000 square feet of office space on five floors, including the top four floors. DLR Group, led by esteemed Dallas architect and designer Andre Staffelbach, designed the Firm’s office space. Kirkland’s over 100 lawyers and almost 50 staff members will move into their offices at Weir’s Plaza on May 2.
Weir’s Plaza was developed by Four Rivers Capital in partnership with the Weir family on the former location of Weir’s Furniture store. Located in the heart of Knox-Henderson, the 12-story building will offer tenants state-of-the-art amenities, spacious terraces throughout the building, six levels of underground parking and unencumbered views of downtown Dallas.
Kirkland partners Michael Considine, Kevin Crews and Thomas Laughlin founded the Dallas office in 2018 with about 10 lawyers and today the office has over 100 lawyers with an eye on continued growth to meet client needs. It is one of three Kirkland offices in Texas, which also includes locations in Houston and Austin. The Firm’s recent additions in Dallas include Erin Nealy Cox, former U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, and litigator Taj Clayton.
“What excites me the most is that we are hitting our next gear and this neighborhood and building is the perfect catalyst for that,” Mr. Considine said. “The team is energized and engaged and we’re excited for what’s to come.”
The Knox District location has one of the highest walkability scores in the state of Texas, with two entrances to the Katy Trail, 40 retail locations and 24 restaurants within a five-minute walk of the building. The building façade was designed to enhance the historic and timeless feel of the area, with the exterior brick and limestone finishes complementing the surrounding buildings. The building plans include full preservation of the Highland Park Soda Fountain, which sits adjacent to Weir’s.
“Our new home was conceived more than three years ago to reflect our vision for what we wanted our office to become,” Mr. Crews said. “While we made adjustments to tech and layout during the pandemic to fit a post-pandemic world, we accomplished our goal of having ample contiguous space on top floors of an iconic new building that will keep up with our growth in Dallas and give our clients and colleagues access to the best of Dallas for many years to come.”
